Veronello are run by local barber Tony Solano. The side has been running for many years now and formally played at the St George's League. The side has the highest average age with the majority of players in their 50's. The side goes out to Italy each year to play in a national tournament. Veronello have had an excellent first year winning both the Autumn and Spring season. Special mention must go to Tony Solano for his goals and outstanding performances.
Harpenden Rovers FC was founded in 1928 but it took 80 years before the Veterans team was formed in 2008 to cater for ‘more experienced’ players. Following a year in the Garston Vets League in the 2009 season, the team moved to the Mid Herts Vets League and were league champions in both 2010 and 2011 seasons. Since joining the league Rovers haven't finished outside the top 3, and were league winners in summer 2012.
Roundwood Royals and Roundwood Redbulls have teamed up to create a super group known as Roundwood United. Run by the league co-founder John Gibbons. They are looking to be a formidable threat in the upcoming season.
The team is run by local mechanic Jim Bradbury. In the first season MIBG were the team to beat, leading all the way until dropping some crucial points at the end of the season. This paved the way for Veronello to win the Autumn Season. Since the first season MIBG haven't really challenged for the league and injury and availability of top marksmen Lloyd, and Jim forgetting the start of the new season hasn't helped. On their day though MIBG and beat anyone are a top bunch of lads.
"In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Harpenden underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive disguised as commuters on the train down to London. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire "the False Expectations". A collection of bankers (boo), lawyers (boo) and other slightly less objectionable city folks, we hope to live up to our team name and create if not fear in the hearts of our opponents, then at least a mild sense of indigestion. To be blunt (and bearing in mind this is a family website), we're manure, and we know we are."
Sandridge Rovers are a strong local Saturday side playing in the Herts County Premier Division. This is Step 7 on the National Pyramid and the 1st team have been in the Premier Division since 1969. The side also has a thriving Veterans squad who play at the weekends, and now in the league at Roundwood. Kim Nguyen runs the Veterans team is still heavily involved with Sandridge Rovers. Sandridge will be looking to improve on their last two years in the league, which they are more than capable of. Sandridge at times have struggled for a consistent team at times, due to playing 11-a-side matches on Sunday's.
The core of the Harpenden Cavaliers attended Roundwood Park School when all this was just fields in the 80s and, after a few victorious seasons at the St George's vets league, are now back where they belong. An elite cricketing outfit for the last 15 summers, the Cavaliers team includes RPS alumni, a few Harpenden Hockey Club players and assorted others. Follow us on twitter @18pintsoscrumpy
